Ethical Dilemma

My dear friend, Ingrid Cliff, posted an interesting question on her Heart Harmony Blog.

Ingrid lays the setting for a hypothetical business dilemma and asks for feedback on what her readers would do – whether they would make the choice to look after their customer’s best interests or the option that suited themselves best financially.

What I found interesting is that Ingrid mentions that the feedback to this post has been one-sided – most readers would do what they felt was in their customer’s best interests. Yet when she posed this very same scenario to a group a few years ago, the answers were fairly evenly split 50/50.

So… have people become more ethical over the last few years or does the difference in responses lie elsewhere?

If you have a minute to spare, visit Heart Harmony’s Business Ethical Dilemmas post and leave your feedback.

Here’s to your success in business,

Donna-Marie

  1. It is an interesting dillema. Personally, I think acting in the customers best interests, ultimately serves you financially.
    They’ll come back.

If you only serve yourself, and disregard what is best for your customers, you’re shooting yourself in the foot in the longterm.

I think it’s a look at the bigger picture scenario.

  2. That’s my view too, Kiera. The customer will appreciate you more and as well as coming back, they’ll tell others about you.

Besides, even if you never hear from them again, you know you’ve done the right thing and I believe that’s important.

  3. It is very wise to think of putting up a small business or home based business during these times. We all need extra money to support our way of living. However, to enjoy more luxury we have to make our business grow. We need to be serious.
